There is a case listed at BV2035033 concerning the estate of Rosemary Ann Meadows who died 2003 in Frinton on Sea, Essex. The death cert gave her birth as one in New Forest in June 1951.

However we have been approached by the still living Rosemary Ann Meadows whose mother and sister are finding that receiving telephone call, letters and visitors telling them of their 'deceased daughter/sister' is wearing a bit thin. The GRO or Registrar will not change the death details provided in 2003.

At the moment we are awaiting to receive a reply from the TSOL as to whether they can remove the listing from their list. We have written and also spoken to them.

The Mental Care home the deceased was kept in, and it was a secure unit was specially for people with serious problems and the staff may have been given incorrect information when she arrived or they simply looked up the GRO records when she died and obtained a date of death that fitted a person of the age they believed the deceased was! Whichever it has not helped our client at all.

There were only three persons who were born with that name in a ten year period in England and Wales and we have located the other two as well of course the person who contacted us.

It was suggested by the GRO that there may have been, co-incidently, two persons born with the same name and age in the registration district. However the local office have been quite good and on that date they have confirmed that for that day there were only two children shown as being born, one was our client and the other was a boy.

I have advised our client of the forum and she has given permission for us to place an item here to ask members to note her problems should there be a long delay before TSOL makes a decision and of course if they say that they cannot remove it then at least the name is registered on the forum and maybe the search engines will pick it up.

Because of the situation I am also going to be placing it on the other place!!!

Reply received from TSOL

Dear Mr Williams,

Thank you for your email of 8 October 2013.

I have now removed the date and place of birth of the deceased from our database and those details will no longer be shown on the list of unclaimed estates. I made an additional note on the list stating that the date and place of birth as given in the death certificate is incorrect and the deceased’s date and place of birth is unknown. The middle name of Ann has also been removed as there is no evidence that this was actually her name. The amendments to the list will take place in the next 24 hours.

Hopefully this will go some way to alleviating the problems Mrs Lane has been experiencing. I shall be grateful if you will pass on our sincere apologies to Mrs Lane, we were acting in good faith based on the information contained in the death certificate which we believed to be accurate.

Yours sincerely
